Do you know what foods edible gypsum powder (food additive calcium sulfate) is used in?

In the food industry, its official name is called "food additive calcium sulfate", commonly known as "edible gypsum". 

It can only be produced using natural gypsum, and chemical gypsum is strictly prohibited. Its application in food has a history of thousands of years. 

The first application in China was the familiar tofu. 

With the development of society, the safe and non-toxic food additive calcium sulfate (edible gypsum) that has been strictly tested by practice has been used more and more widely in the food industry.

1. Product classification of food additive calcium sulfate (gypsum)

Food additive calcium sulfate (gypsum) has two subcategories, but there are three product series in actual production.

1. CaSO4·2H2O Calcium sulfate dihydrate, the dihydrate form of calcium sulfate, contains about 20% of crystal water. 

The product can only use the best natural gypsum ore (generally fibrous gypsum) after layers of screening, strict classification, impurity removal and storage.

 Because all physical methods are used, there is less pollution, natural and healthy, and it is the first choice for customers who pursue quality 

(except for special requirements for temperature and moisture).

 This process is currently widely used by gypsum production companies in various countries around the world.

2. CaSO4 anhydrous calcium sulfate is made from natural gypsum ore through high-temperature calcination, dehydration and grinding.

 According to different production processes, it can be divided into two subcategories:

(1) Traditional process production: The product uses ordinary natural gypsum ore (generally ungraded fiber gypsum with soil), which is directly in contact with coal, 

dry wood and other fuels, and is then calcined, dehydrated, cooled, and then de-impurified and ground. Due to direct contact with coal and other fuels, 

there are residual odors such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and sulfur dioxide (SO2). 

Most of the products are used in low-end food industries such as traditional soy products. At present, this process is only used in Chinese production enterprises.

(2) Modern process production: The product is also made of only the best natural gypsum ore (generally fiber gypsum) through complex processes such as grading,

 de-impurity, and indirect calcination. Because it is odorless, high-purity, high-whiteness and high-brightness, 

it is widely used by mid-to-high-end customers with special requirements for temperature, moisture, whiteness, etc. 

Due to the complex process and high energy consumption, there are currently only a few gypsum companies in the world that produce it, and our company is the only one that can supply it in China.
